OFFICE HOURS BEFORE EXAMS
Hi, everybody! I just wanted to tell you that I WILL BE DICTATING IN THE 1st EXAMS AFTER THE WINTER BREAK. So, I need you to let PHONETICS I, II and III sudents that I will be giving office hours on WEDNSEDAY, JULY 6th, from 10:30 to 1pm, and on FRIDAY, JULY 8th, from 9 to 12. Then, I'll let you know about the office hours after the break and before the Exams. Thanx and SEE YOU! :D

LISTENING MATERIAL FOR PRACTICE
For those who want to practise some listening before the listening assignment, if you go to the Cambridge site (http://www.cambridgeesol.org/), you should consult the section called: Teacher Resources, ang log onto the Resources by Exam, FCE, HAndbook, sample papers, etc. There you will find the kinds of exercises we are going to solve in our listening assignment. Remember that this 1st assignment will be assessing LISTENING FOR GIST (that is, general information, not specific details).

HI, EVERYBODY! I'm sorry I couldn't go to the Friday class. I know we needed so much practice and that you had prepared the reading with rhythm! Anyway, I just wanted you to know that Professor Gargantini and I will be leaving further material for transcription practice. This material has been taken from a very up-dated magazine and we are pretty sure you willl like it. You will find information on current issues. I'll be uploading the transcription keys for correction this afternoon.

ABSENT ON FRIDAY, MAY 6TH
DEAR STUDENTS, I WON'T BE ABLE TO GO TO CLASS ON FRIDAY AS I AM IN BED AND HAVE BEEN PRESCRIBED SOME REST. LICKILY FOR YOU, YOU WON'T HAVE THE ASSIGNMENT. I ADVISE YOU TO GO TO PROF. GARGANTINI'S CLASS. SHE WILL BE HAPPY TO PROVIDE SOME PRACTICE AND FURTHER DEVELOPMENT OF PROSODIC FEATURES. I WILL BE SEEING YOU AGAIN NEXT WEEK. THAN YOU AND TAKE CARE!

TRANSCRIPTION PRACTICE
Here you have three short texts to transcribe and check before next class. Try to transcribe it WITHOUT using your dictionaries. Remember that I will upload the key versions during the current week. Good luck!
1. I suppose it's nearly fifteen years now that we've been friends. She's like a sister to me. There have been various times when we haven't been in touch a lot... but we've always known more or less what's going on in the other one's life... so that's been OK. The thing is... I know definitely that if I ever really, really needed her help for whatever reason, if I was ever in trouble, she's be there for me.. for sure! And likewise of course.
2. I used to have a best friend -someone that I was incredibly close to. But then she did something I got really upset about. We tried to talk about it, but it all got pretty messy and we stopped talking for a while... and then I moved abroad. Funnily enough, I got a letter from her just a week ago or so. She's suggesting some kind of meeting to talk about it. I'm not sure how I feel about it all. I need to think about it.
3. A group of us... all really good friends you know... drove down to Spain on holiday together this summer. I was sure we were going to have a fantastic time... but I couldn't have been more wrong! I suppose, I hadn't thought about how different we all are and how some people can be incredibly selfish. There were loads of arguments and we could never agree about what we were going to do. That's definitely the last time I do that kind of holiday!

WELCOME TO THE 2011 JOURNEY!
Hi, everybody! Welcome to the Phonetics II L@b! We will be devoting some precious time to the study and polishing of all the processes and features which will be useful for our 2011 journey through the subject. This blog is aimed at accompanying each other along the learning process so as to get feedback on our performance. In the same way, I will be willing to get comments, suggestions, or any other contributions you can think of to improve this space.
